Selling Shovels to Gold Miners...

Panning For Gold

You know, I never quite got this at first. I had heard it said a million times, but I didn't really know what the TRUE meaning of this little phrase was... but I do now.

Let's take a journey back in time, to the era of the California Gold Rush, where people left the comfort of their homes, braving the wild, untamed frontier of the west, hoping to strike it rich. Yet, the majority returned empty-handed, their dreams of wealth crumbling like sand through their fingers.

However, a handful of astute observers stood apart. These were the ones who, instead of scratching the earth for gold, decided to cater to the needs of these starry-eyed prospectors.

They sold shovels, pickaxes, and pans... the tools of the trade. These shrewd businessmen watered the seeds of their fortune, not by sweating under the sun, but by selling the dream to those who dared to chase it.

Let's transpose this scenario to our present digital age...

The internet is our wild west, teeming with scores of modern-day gold miners, seeking their fortunes in the form of digital products and services. They are "Internet Marketers".

These digital prospectors, however, are often strapped for time, their hands full with the quest to find the perfect "biz offer"... their "golden nugget".

But what should they sell? What product or service should they focus on that will guarantee a steady stream of customers, like bees to honey? 

The answer is elusive, like trying to catch smoke with bare hands. No one can accurately predict the next big thing.

But what we do know is this... the "Gold Miners" will always need the resources, training, tools, and the systems to market their "golden nuggets"... and those are the "shovels".
